Checkdisout #6: Future Mobility

Checkdisout #6 Future Mobility invites pioneering thinkers and creators of new mobility solutions to the Kunstverein Hamburg to talk about their vision of what mobility will look like in the future. How can more people be enticed not to use their cars? Why is sharing becoming more important than owning? How can resources be used more efficiently? Do we need to redefine how we understand mobility?
For an increasing number of people, cars are no longer sexy. Somewhere along the line between peak-oil, carbon footprints and cash-for-clunkers, the car’s sacrosanct, iconic status has been called into question. The way people deal with mobility has changed fundamentally in recent years. Big cities are creating environmental zones as public bike rental systems experience a global boom. Even in the United States, the legendary home of automotive freedom, new high-speed train routes are being planned and streets are being converted into cycle paths. The auto industry and public transportation operators alike are responding to these changes with a host of new mobility offerings. Can services like Zipcar, Car2Go, Mu, Quicar, Flinkster and the like solve the mobility issues of tomorrow, or is motorized individual transport a dead end?
